Coronavirus czar Ronni Gamzu visits Jerusalem, which has the most active COVID-19 infections of any city in Israel.
“You’re succeeding in moderating it, but the morbidity is still high,” Gamzu says during a meeting with Mayor Moshe Lion and other municipal officials, according to Channel 12 news. “Any other city in the world with morbidty rates like these would already be locked [down].”
Gamzu says the density of some neighborhoods, “particularly in the Arab and ultra-Orthodox communities,” makes it harder to manage the outbreak in the capital.
He also comments on the recent protests against Prime Minister Netanyahu outside his official residence in Jerusalem, in which thousands have demonstrated.
“There is no shortage of challenges in the city including the burden of the protests that also add to spreading of the virus,” Gamzu says.
