The Defense Ministry sets up an assistance agency to deal with the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Gaza border communities that were devastated in the Hamas assault last week.

Ministry Director-General Eyal Zamir allocates an initial NIS 10 million ($2.5 million) for immediate assistance.

The assistance will include dealing with the electricity, gas and water infrastructure along with clearing the ruins of shattered buildings, and cleaning up in the aftermath of the massacres.

The work will be done in full cooperation of the communities, the ministry says.

Zamir also decides that work will begin immediately and not wait for the war to end.
