Economic growth slowed dramatically last quarter

Government figures show a dramatic slowdown in the economy in the second quarter of 2015.

The quarter saw economic expansion equivalent to just 0.3 percent annual growth, the Central Bureau of Statistics says.

That’s lower than debt-wracked Greece, which saw 3.1%, and may be a sign that recession looms. Only France and Japan among developed nations saw less growth.

In the wake of the report, the government lowers its growth projection for 2015 from 2.5% to 2%, a drop that will have a dramatic effect on the balance sheet of the 2015-2016 budget proposed by the government last month and set to be debated in the Knesset beginning September 2.
