Egyptian negotiators have proposed a temporary ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terror group, Channel 13 news reports.

According to the report, the pause in hostilities would be an opportunity for a longer-lasting ceasefire to be negotiated.

The report does not say if either side is open to the proposal.

The proposal comes as Operation Breaking Dawn nears its 24-hour mark.

The military operation began Friday afternoon when the Israel Defense Forces launched strikes on terror targets in the Gaza Strip in response to what officials said was an ongoing “concrete” threat to target Israeli civilians and soldiers.

Islamic Jihad then began to fire relentless barrages of rockets at Israeli communities in southern and central Israel.
