Florida-bound Hurricane Matthew upgraded to Category 4
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleHurricane Matthew is gaining strength as it approaches Florida and was upgraded to Category Four, the National Hurricane Center says.
The center says the storm could strengthen further still as it churns toward the US coast from the Caribbean. Four is the second-highest level on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale.
The storm has maximum sustained winds of nearly 140 miles (220 kilometers) per hour, with higher gusts, the center says.
