Foreign Ministry director Dore Gold is resigning his post, according to a report by Ynet news.
The report, which does not include a source, says Gold, 64, is leaving the ministry for personal reasons.
Gold, who was born and educated in the US, is not immediately reachable.
With Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu acting as foreign minister, Gold has essentially been a placeholder fulfilling his policies, including a drive to reach out to Sunni and African states as well as overseeing a rapprochement with Turkey.
Gold previously served as a top aide to Netanyahu and as head of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs.
