Friday prayers end on Temple Mount amid heightened tensions, but without incident

Palestinians leave the Old City through Damascus Gate after Friday prayers, April 8, 2022 (Aaron Boxerman/Times of Israel)
Thousands of Palestinians stream through Damascus Gate after Friday prayers end without a hitch.
Nonetheless, the tension in the air is palpable following last night’s terror shooting in Tel Aviv.
Many police officers are deployed around Damascus Gate. Fences tightly direct the tide of worshippers out of the plaza as Border Police look on.
Many West Bank Palestinians crossed into Israel to pray at the Al-Aqsa holy site on Friday morning, in accordance with relaxed restrictions on movement for the Ramadan holy month.
“Some people were scared to come, because of what happened yesterday, and we were worried they’d close off the West Bank. But they’re here, praise God,” says Adam, who works at a shop in the Old City.
