Herzog urges politicians, others to ‘tone down remarks and behaviors’ amid overhaul rifts

President Isaac Herzog issues a statement urging politicians and others to calm their rhetoric in light of the deep societal rifts over the government’s judicial overhaul push, as he leads compromise talks.

“The crisis that has been accompanying us for several months now is evident, with the divisions, and sometimes — I say this with deep pain — also the hate, evident everywhere — from the streets, through family Shabbat meals and WhatsApp groups, to social media,” Herzog says.

“We at the President’s Residence are investing continuous, Sisyphean efforts in promoting widespread dialogue and understanding,” he adds. “This compels us all to act with moderation, to tone down remarks and behaviors, to show responsibility — especially in regards to public servants and public officials.”
