The Israel Defense Forces says it has suspended a settlement security coordinator who was seen on Friday aiding settlers attacking Palestinian olive harvesters.
A video, taken by the Yesh Din rights group, showed the security officer watching as masked youths hurl stones on a hill between Burin and the Israeli settlement of Har Bracha.
The footage shows the officer holding a tear gas grenade given to him by a settler and pointing toward the Palestinians, before the settler hurls another tear gas grenade at them, and then returns to take back the projectile he handed him.
“This act is a deviation from the behavior expected from qualified Israeli security personnel,” the IDF says in a statement.
The coordinator for the Har Bracha settlement has been suspended pending a review by the chief of the IDF’s Samaria regional brigade, Col. Shimon Siso.
He has also been questioned by police over the incident.
