The Israeli Air Force’s elite Unit 669 is on standby to carry out rescue operations and provide medical treatment amid the fires in the Jerusalem area, the military says.

The unit is also carrying out scans in the area.

Earlier, IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir ordered the military to help battle the blazes.

Firefighting teams from the Home Front Command and the Air Force are deployed. The Air Force is also helping provide aerial pictures to help the Fire and Rescue Service and Israel Police combat the blazes.
