Israel to reduce electricity supply to Gaza over unpaid bills
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleIsrael later this month will begin reducing the amount of electricity it supplies to the Gaza Strip by a quarter over its outstanding debt of almost NIS 2 billion ($530 million).
In an interview with BBC Arabic, head of the Coordinator of Government Activity in the Territories Maj. Gen. Yoav Mordechai says the issue stems from the ongoing spat between the West Bank-based Palestinian Authority and Hamas, the terrorist organization that rules the Strip.
Mordechai criticizes Hamas for not prioritizing the quality of life of its residents, saying the group would rather spend its money bolstering its military capabilities.
