Israelis break power use record for 2017 during heatwave

As Israel swelters in the grips of a sizzling heatwave, the country breaks its electricity use record for 2017.

According to figures announced by the Israel Electric Corporation, Israelis consumed 12,438 megawatts of power at 3 p.m. running air conditioners full-blast during the hottest part of the day.

Temperatures in Jerusalem reached 37º degrees Celcius (98.6º Fahrenheit), while the Dead Sea area reached a high of 43º degrees Celcius (110º Fahrenheit).
