US Jewish groups will protest tonight outside New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s official residence on the Upper East Side for the first time.
The rally at 7 p.m. is organized by the activist group EndJewHatred, with the backing of groups including the Israeli American Council, the Catholic League and the Zionist Organization of America.
“We will not be intimidated. Take back our streets,” organizers say in a statement.
Mainstream Jewish groups have long been at odds with the anti-Zionist Mamdani, tensions that have escalated in recent weeks.
Last week, Mamdani released a Nakba Day video that Jewish leaders decried as “propaganda,” and also backed legislation targeting Jewish charities linked to “settlement activity.”
Jewish leaders have said previous incarnations of the legislation would effectively ban a swath of Jewish nonprofits that have links to settlements, but do not promote settlement expansion, such as social service groups.
Mamdani has refused to participate in the Jewish community’s annual parade, called Israel Day on Fifth, taking place this weekend.
