Opposition leader Yair Lapid says Israel should consider ending the military operation in Gaza now after reaching a number of its goals.

“I think it’s time to pack up this event, this is the time,” he tells Kan’s Reshet Bet radio. “You always need to be exact on the question of when you exit, not just when you enter.”

Lapid says he does not believe there are “immediate aims” that Israel needs to accomplish right now during this operation. “There are [already] good results… I don’t think there’s a benefit we’re waiting for. We should stop now.”

The opposition leader says he gave full backing to the operation and believes it was wise to launch, “but these things tend to get complicated, and you have to know when to stop — this is the right moment.”

Lapid received a security briefing from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu about the operation yesterday.
