Likud MK proposes bill to block media from reporting on probes into public figures

Likud MK Miki Zohar is proposing legislation that would prevent the media from publishing information on investigations into public officials without special permission from the attorney general, Hadashot news reports.

The legislation is said to be a more extreme version of the so-called Recommendations Law, which would bar police from recommending indictment in corruption investigations against public figures.

Included in its clauses is a stipulation that the media cannot publicize the police’s recommendations in probes into the conduct of public figures without the approval of the attorney general.

Zohar’s legislation extends the censure to the entire investigation under the pretext that the politician’s reputation should not be harmed until he or she is proven guilty.
