Likud refuses Gantz’s request to pull right-wing bills from Knesset agenda

Coalition whip Miki Zohar (Likud) refuses Defense Minister Benny Gantz’s request to pull from the Knesset agenda two bills relating to West Bank outposts and settlements, amid the tense security situation with the Palestinians.

Zohar says “these are very important laws for strengthening the settlements in the Land of Israel and we must not succumb to the various pressures.”

The bills call for legalizing outposts and enabling renewed access to West Bank areas evacuated in 2005. The votes on the legislation today are seen as an attempt by Likud to divide the so-called “change bloc” which is composed of right-wing, centrist and left-wing parties.
