National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir hits out against the judicial system, asserting he is not a “puppet for the State Attorney’s Office,” ahead of a High Court hearing on his potential dismissal.
“[Attorney General] Gali Baharav-Miara says that I am deciding policy and changing the police — she is correct,” he says to applause, speaking to reporters outside the court in Jerusalem.
This morning, a nine-judge panel is scheduled to hear petitions demanding the prime minister fire Ben Gvir, arguing he has unlawfully interfered with police decision-making, especially when it comes to their handling of protests and investigations, undermining their independence.
Several hundred protesters are gathered outside the building in support of Ben Gvir, sounding blowhorns and waving signs vowing to “put an end to the judicial dictatorship.”
