The Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, the military wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, says one of the terror group’s operatives was killed with members of his family near Khan Younis in an Israeli strike on January 31.

He is identified as Hazem Rabhi Abu Hadaid and described as “one of the heroes of the ‘commandos’ unit.”

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights, a Gaza City-based anti-Israel organization, said Abu Hadaid, 39, was killed in a displaced peoples’ tent along with his father Rabhi, 69, brother Muhammad, 36, sister Hejar, 27, son Jibril, 8, daughter Sham, 7, and Muhammad’s daughter Lia, 5. The Hadaid clan also announced on social media over the past week that another woman and child from the family had succumbed to their wounds.

The wave of strikes that day killed at least 32 people, according to Hamas’s civil defense agency.

The IDF said at the time that it targeted four Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad commanders, as well as a weapons depot, an arms manufacturing site and two rocket-launching positions, after eight gunmen, including a Hamas commander, emerged from a tunnel in southern Gaza’s Rafah a day earlier in what the military said was a breach of the Gaza ceasefire deal.

The military’s statement did not mention the Abu Ali Mustafa Brigades, which has fought alongside Hamas in Gaza and indicated that it held the body of Tal Haimi, who was killed defending Kibbutz Nir Yitzhak during the Hamas-led onslaught of October 7, 2023, that sparked the war in Gaza.
