President Isaac Herzog holds his first work meeting with opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu.
“During the meeting the two discussed the burning issues on the agenda, foremost dealing with the coronavirus. The president noted the great importance he sees in the role of the opposition in the Knesset and that there is no democracy without opposition,” a statement from Herzog’s office says.
Herzog, a former Labor party chief who served as opposition leader between 2013 and 2018, became president earlier this month when his predecessor Reuven Rivlin’s term ended. Netanyahu has been opposition leader since he was replaced as premier by Naftali Bennett last month.
