Israel is reportedly planning to form a special tribunal that will oversee the criminal cases against hundreds of detained Hamas terrorists who participated in the October 7 atrocities.

According to the Kan public broadcaster, the prevailing view in the justice system is that the regular criminal law isn’t the correct avenue to try those who took part in the onslaught, during which some 1,400 were murdered, the vast majority of them civilians butchered in their homes or at a music festival, and at least 247 were kidnapped to the Gaza Strip.

The report says discussions are ongoing on how to bring the detained terrorists to justice. Some 200 Hamas members were captured alive in Israel in the aftermath of the mass invasion, and more have been and are expected to be brought to Israel as part of its major ground offensive in Gaza.

Kan says the likely solution is special legislation that will empower a tribunal, with the purpose of holding a historic judicial case against Hamas “to present to the world the goals, roots, funders and activities of the murderous terror group.”

The Justice Ministry declines to confirm or deny the report.
