Shin Bet: Arson at home of Duma witness not nationalist attack

The Shin Bet and police increasingly believe that a fire overnight at the home of a witness to a deadly attack on a Palestinian family last year was not a nationalist attack by Jewish extremists.

In a joint statement released this evening, the two security forces say: “There is a growing assessment that there is no question of activity with a nationalist motive. The findings at the scene so far are not compatible with the characteristics of arson by Jews.”

The home belongs to a key witness in the July 2015 arson attack on the home of the Dawabsha family, also in the West Bank village of Duma, which killed both parents and their baby son; just a five-year-old child survived, with massive burns. Two Jewish Israelis have been charged in that attack.
