Southern towns without clean water for second day, residents say

Residents of southern Israel say they are on a second day without clean water, after issues were discovered during installation of a new water line Wednesday.

People living in Sderot, Netivot and a number of smaller communities near the Gaza border were told by the Health Ministry late Wednesday to run their taps until the water runs clear and to boil water before consuming it.

That came several hours after the Mekorot water company reported that the installation of a new water pipe had run into problems.

Mekorot said at the time that it would work all night to deal with flow issues, but as of this afternoon, residents say they are still without clean water.

“This is intolerable,” a resident of Kfar Maimon tells Channel 12 news. “If this was in Tel Aviv they would have fixed it in an hour.”
