Syrian interior ministry: Security officer killed, 2 wounded in attack by proscribed group on Sweida checkpoint

An officer from the Syrian security forces was killed and two others wounded in a “criminal assault” on a checkpoint between the Sweida and Daraa governorates in southern Syria by members of what it says are illegal organizations.

The predominantly Druze region of Sweida was the site of deadly sectarian violence in July, with Israel, home to 150,000 Druze, aiding the Syrian Druze as they clashed with Bedouin groups and government-aligned security forces. The fighting ended with a fragile ceasefire.
