Three arrested in Russia for planning to attack synagogues

Russian authorities say they have arrested three men suspected of planning to carry out attacks at synagogues in two separate locations.

The country’s FSB security agency says it arrested two nationals from an unnamed central-Asian country who were planning to detonate an improvised explosive in a Krasnoyarsk synagogue, and bomb materials were found in an abandoned building.

According to the security service, the plot was ostensibly part of a pro-Palestinian protest and bore similarities to a 2023 incident in Dagestan in which a mob of rioters stormed an airport looking to attack Israelis it thought had arrived on a flight.

A Russian citizen was also arrested for planning to firebombing a synagogue in Pyatigorsk, near the Georgian border.

All three men were charged with terror offenses.
