US President Trump says Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanese President Joseph Aoun will likely hold their White House meeting in the next week or two.
Speaking to reporters outside the White House, Trump expresses his optimism that the meeting will lead to an agreement between the two countries, which would ostensibly build on the 10-day ceasefire set to take effect in the coming hours.
Trump says the Lebanese government will “take care of Hezbollah.”
Describing the ceasefire he brokered hours earlier, Trump says, “It’s a very nice little package for about a week, and we’re not going to have lots of bombs dropping, and we’re going to see if we can make peace between Lebanon and Israel.”
Asked how this initiative will be different from other Israel-Lebanon peace efforts, Trump responds, “Me. I’m the difference.”
