Ukraine claims senior Russian general killed in Kharkiv

Ukraine is claiming to have killed a top Russian general during fighting in Kharkiv Monday.

According to Kyiv’s Defense Intelligence Directorate, Maj. Gen. Vitaly Gerasimov was killed, along with a number of other officers.

Gerasimov was a first deputy commander of Russia’s 41st Army, and previously fought in Chechnya and Crimea, Ukraine said.

The intel directorate also claimed to have intercepted FSB conversations, and claimed Russians in the area were having issues with communications infrastructure.

Reports swirled last week that Maj. Gen. Andrei Sukhovetsky, another top officer in the 41st Army, had been killed in the fighting.
