US appeals court upholds block on Trump travel ban
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleA US federal appeals court deals a fresh blow to President Donald Trump’s controversial travel ban, upholding a lower court’s decision to block the measure, which targeted travelers from six Muslim majority countries.
The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals says it “remained unconvinced” that the part of the measure naming the specific countries — Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen — had “more to do with national security than it does with effectuating the president’s promised Muslim ban.”
The court further says it could not say that the government’s security concerns outweighed the plaintiffs’ concerns about discrimination.
