Yamina on conversions ruling: Court has overstepped its role
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleNaftali Bennett’s Yamina party castigates the High Court for its recognition of Reform and Conservative conversions in Israel, saying the court “is intervening in government decisions and forgetting its role.”
The State of Israel’s stance on conversion to Judaism, says the Orthodox nationalist party, “will be determined by the democratically elected representatives of the people, not by jurists.”
It says it will advance legislation on the issue based on a framework devised by former justice minister Moshe Nissim.
