Cinematheques across Israel will celebrate the first Wave Festival this week, dedicated to the growing scene of female Italian filmmakers.
The screenings of 10 Italian films will be held at the Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, Haifa and Rosh Pina Cinematheques.
The Wave Festival will take place at local arthouse theaters from December 11 through 20, in collaboration with several local Italian organizations.
The event opens this coming Sunday at the Tel Aviv Cinematheque with the 2022 film “Il Colibrì” (“The Hummingbird”), directed by Francesca Archibugi. Actress Kasia Smutniak, the female lead of the film, will attend.
The film is based on a novel by Sandro Veronesi and depicts the strange, wondrous life of Marco Carrera (Pierfrancesco Favino) from childhood through adulthood to his final years.
Director Michela Occhipinti will present her film, “Il Corpo Della Sposa” (“Flesh Out”) on December 12 at Tel Aviv Cinematheque and on December 13 at the Jerusalem Cinematheque.
Occhipinti’s film tells the story of a modern woman challenging the Mauritanian tradition of arranged marriage.
The other films — synopses and ticket information — are available on the Wave Festival website.
