There’s a new housewife in New York City, and guess what, she’s Jewish.
Julianne Wainstein is the newest cast member of Bravo TV’s “The Real Housewives of New York City,” a “lither-than-lithe, 5-foot-8 stunner,” according to the New York Post, and she couldn’t be happier about her new role.
Wainstein will be on Season 8 of the reality TV show, joining the existing cast that hasn’t changed much during its eight seasons, although there have been shifts in their marital status.
The Real Housewives franchise documents the lives of well-to-do women living in different regions of the United States. Despite the title, not all the women are housewives.
A mother of two, and a housewife and socialite, Wainstein is married to Michael Wainstein, a venture capitalist.
According to Wainstein, her family is “kind of modern Orthodox,” she told the Post, calling herself “half-Japanese, half-Brooklynese.” Her father is Jewish, her mother is Japanese.
She also told the Post that they are a very traditional Jewish family, and that even if they don’t have challah for their weekly Shabbat dinners, they will always have a hot dog bun or cracker. If they’re out of Manischewitz for kiddush, the blessing recited over wine on Friday night, Gatorade is their usual go-to substitute, Wainstein told the Post.
