One man was killed and 16 others wounded, two seriously, in a massive street brawl Saturday between two rival families in the Bedouin village of Kuseife east of Beersheba.

According to police, the fight began when members of one family allegedly attempted to run over a member of another with their car.

Police forces rushed to the scene to separate the combatants, but not before 17 people had to be rushed to Beersheba’s Soroka Hospital.

One critically injured man, identified as a 50-year-old resident of the village, was pronounced dead by doctors at Soroka.

The wounded, all men, ranged from ages 25 to 60. Several suffered from blunt force trauma wounds, including to the head.

Magen David Adom rescue crews took the more seriously wounded to hospital. Several of the injured drove themselves.
