Palestinian boy armed with knife arrested at West Bank junction

A Palestinian boy allegedly armed with a knife was arrested by troops on Tuesday night at the Tapuah Junction in the West Bank.

Pictures from the scene showed soldiers restraining a suspect on the ground.

There was no immediate comment from the Israel Defense Forces on the incident.

Several Hebrew-language media reports put the suspect’s age at 12. Some reports said the suspect was 10 years old.

The reports said the boy threw the knife he was armed with to the side after troops fired shots into the air.

The Rescuers Without Borders emergency service said its medics were called to the scene, but nobody was hurt.

In a separate incident nearby, a 70-year-old Israeli woman was lightly hurt after her car came under a stone-throwing attack near the settlement of Revava.

The Magen David Adom ambulance service said its medics were treating the woman for injuries from glass shrapnel, due to the car’s shattered windows.

The incidents came at a time of rising violence in the West Bank. Earlier Tuesday, a maintenance vehicle working along the northern West Bank security barrier came under gunfire.

Israeli troops have repeatedly come under gunfire during nightly raids in the West Bank, during a months-long effort against Palestinian terrorists.

The military launched the operation after a series of deadly attacks that killed 19 people between mid-March and the beginning of May.

More than 2,000 suspects have been detained since the beginning of the year, according to the Shin Bet security agency.

In raids during the predawn hours of Tuesday, troops arrested five wanted Palestinians, with violent incidents in some areas, the IDF said.
