Police on Sunday charged a 16-year-old boy with the premeditated murder of 42-year-old Haim Vizman, a convicted pedophile who was found dead in his Netanya apartment with multiple stab wounds in mid-August.
The indictment against the teen, filed with the Lod District Court, described the August 8 crime as “an especially cruel murder,” detailing how he allegedly came to Vizman’s home with a knife, stabbed him 23 times, and tried to burn the apartment in an attempt to cover up the evidence.
Vizman had a history of sexual offenses against minors and was known to seek out sexual liaisons with young men, according to Hebrew media reports.
In his initial interrogation the teenage suspect denied any connection to the incident but later changed his version of events and said he had met Vizman via the internet about a month before the murder, police said.
“I met him on Facebook. I wanted to get to know him out of sexual curiosity. I’m uncertain about my sexuality. I was very confused,” the suspect told police, according to the indictment. “We met in Netanya and went to his house. I did not like how he looked, there was no attraction but he wanted to force sex on me, closed the door of the house and didn’t let me out.”
The suspect claimed he only stabbed Vizman in self-defense.
“I went to the kitchen and took a knife to threaten him to leave me alone and open the door. There was a fight between us and during it he was stabbed with a knife and died,” the suspect was reported to have said.
“This version was refuted by the investigation team in light of the [suspect’s] possession of the knife before the meeting, the number of stab wounds and the attempted arson of the crime scene,” police said.
Vizman’s body was found by two teenage boys who entered the apartment around 3 a.m. the day after the murder. Magen David Adom paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
