Police on Sunday said they had detained a shepherd who tried to pull the wool over their eyes and reported that he’d lost his sheep — all 280 of them.

Police investigated the resident of Beer Tuvia in southern Israel and found that he was just crying wolf and was actually trying to fleece the Tax Authority.

“An investigation revealed that the man made up the story, together with three of his workers,” police said in a tweet.

The men are no longer on the lamb and have now been arrested, police said, adding that they have since sheepishly admitted to their woolly scheme.
