US planning to significantly cut fighter jets, warships for NATO operations in Europe — report
Add ToI as a Preferred Source on GoogleThe United States plans to significantly reduce the aircraft and warships that it makes available for NATO operations in Europe, the New York Times reports, citing two senior European officials.
The plan will see the US reduce the number of fighter jets and maritime reconnaissance aircraft, and reallocate a missile-launching submarine and aircraft carrier, among other items, the Times reports.
These reductions will limit NATO’s surveillance capabilities and its ability to launch long-range strikes, the report says.
