Don’t Mess with the Zohan star Adam Sandler was attacked by a cheetah while on safari on a recent trip to South Africa.

“They let me in with a cheetah and said I could feed the cheetah water with my hands,” Sandler told David Letterman on the latter’s talk show on Tuesday night.

“So I did it, and something went a little bit wrong,” the comic actor confided in the Late Show host.

Footage of the incident showed Sandler turning to the cheetah with cupped hands filled with water from a small lake. As soon as Sandler turned around, the big cat pounced on his back and had to be pulled off by a caretaker. Throughout the encounter, Sandler seemed calm and untroubled.

“I had a stiff neck at the time,” explained Sandler. “So when he jumped on me, I was like, oh, my neck … all I was going to do was let him eat me, there was not one part of me that was going to fight back.”
