FBI to release report about Clinton email probe

The US Federal Bureau of Investigations is expected to release over the next few days a report it sent to the Justice Department in July about the Clinton email scandal, CNN reported Wednesday.

The roughly 30-page report will be published, following multiple Freedom of Information Act requests, along with FBI notes from a Clinton interview, CNN reported.

In July, the FBI’s director, James Comey, said Clinton had been “extremely careless” about her emails but recommended against charges not be filed against her.

In March last year, it emerged that Clinton had used a private server for official communications — many of them classified — while serving as secretary of State.

The saga is playing out against the backdrop of the US presidential campaign, in which Clinton has been facing off against Donald Trump, and House Select Committee hearings about the 2012 terror attack on the US diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, during which the US ambassador and three other Americans were killed. The attack took place while Clinton was secretary of state.

The campaign of Republican presidential hopeful Trump has accused Clinton of using a private server because she had something to hide.

“Hillary Clinton swore before a federal court and told the American people she handed over all of her work-related emails,” Jason Miller, a senior communications adviser for the Trump campaign, said in a statement. “If Clinton did not consider emails about something as important as Benghazi to be work-related, one has to wonder what is contained in the other emails she attempted to wipe from her server.”
