The Palestinian parliament’s deputy speaker, an independent supported by Hamas, said he was shot at by unidentified gunmen Thursday as he drove near his home in the northern West Bank.

Hassan Khraisheh, who was unhurt in the attack, told AFP five rounds hit his car just a couple of hundred meters from his home in the city of Tulkarem.

The deputy speaker, who has been an outspoken critic of the Palestinian Authority headed by president Mahmoud Abbas, said he was informed an investigation was underway. The city is under full Palestinian security control.

Palestinian security officials were not immediately available for comment.
