Jon Stewart mocks ‘Bibi vs. Obama’ race

While the White House may have found it hard to crack a smile over Israeli elections, at least one person found a way to turn Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s win, and Washington’s frosty response, into comedy gold.

“Last night Benjamin Netanyahu apparently defeated Barack Obama… and the Palestinians,” “Daily Show” host Jon Stewart quipped on Wednesday night, recapping the election and the US media’s obsession with the fact that the president had yet to congratulate his frenemy in Jerusalem.

“Really? You find it interesting that a foreign country’s prime minister who came to Congress against the White House’s wishes, shit on a nuclear deal the president spent years working on, wouldn’t receive an immediate post-election atta boy!” Stewart joked.

“Really?!”

The comedian also discussed Netanyahu’s tactics in the days leading up to the election.

Stewart showed more news clips (including one featuring the Times of Israel’s own David Horovitz) that discussed Netanyahu’s promises to prevent the formation of a Palestinian state and his calls to Jewish Israelis to combat the “droves of Arab voters” going to the polls.

At that point Stewart became serious.

“How dare you!” he said. “How dare you gin up racist fears of minority turnout for short-term political gain.”

Beat.

“That’s our thing.”
