Man, 32, shot and killed in Rishon Lezion

A  32-year-old man was shot and killed Wednesday evening in Rishon Lezion. Police identified a suspect in the apparent homicide and were searching for him.

The victim, Uzi Levi, was shot in the stomach on Ben Zvi street in the central city, which is a 15-minute drive from Tel Aviv. Police said they were familiar with the victim due to his criminal history, and that they believed some type of criminal activity had led to the incident.

The shooting occurred early Wednesday evening and Levi was taken to the nearby Assaf Harofeh Medical Center where he died of his wounds.

A report by the consulting firm McKinsey & Company found that there are currently only 70 patrolmen and six police cars in Rishon Lezion that must respond to over 250 calls per day.
