A 15-year-old boy in the central Arab Israeli town of Taibe was seriously wounded Friday after apparently being struck by errant gunfire.

The teenager, who has not been identified, was taken to a hospital in nearby Kfar Saba for treatment.

The boy was likely hit by a stray bullet, according to a police statement. Police opened an investigation and said officers were searching for the shooter.

The shooting followed several violent incidents on Thursday night and came as deadly shootings surged in the Arab community over the past week.

According to the Abraham Initiatives, 114 members of the Arab community have been killed in homicides since the start of 2022, including 97 who were shot.
