3 times more Palestinians said hurt in West Bank terror than Israelis in January

Three times more Palestinians were victims of terror attacks in the West Bank than Jews in January, according to reported figures from Israel’s security establishment.

The report by the Kan public broadcaster on Sunday came amid a spike in attacks by extremist settlers in the West Bank. The network did not specify the precise source of the figures.

Last month, according to the report, 22 Palestinians were injured and required medical evacuation due to terror attacks, as opposed to seven Jewish Israelis.

The report also said that last month, there were 11 instances of arson attacks by Jews targeting Palestinian buildings or vehicles. January saw two instances of Palestinians throwing Molotov cocktails at Jewish targets, the report said, along with 126 instances of Palestinian stone-throwing targeting Jews.

The data reflects the continuation of a months-long rise in attacks by extremist Jewish settlers against Palestinians and Israeli security forces in the West Bank. The number of such attacks rose by 27 percent in 2025 compared to the previous year, according to data recorded by the Israel Defense Forces and Shin Bet security agency.

The number of severe incidents of “nationalistic crime” by settler extremists, classified by Israeli security bodies as terrorism, also rose by over 50%, according to the data.

The IDF recorded 867 incidents of nationalistic crime and settler violence in 2025. The total for 2024 was 682 incidents.

The attacks, which occur on a near-daily basis, largely go unchecked. Prosecutions of Jewish extremists are rare, and convictions are even rarer. Critics have accused the government, described as the most hardline in Israel’s history, of shrugging off the attacks.

Meanwhile, police were searching for suspects who set fire to Islamic holy books in a West Bank mosque earlier Sunday evening.

According to Palestinian outlets, several Israeli settlers broke into the house of worship on the outskirts of Maniya, a village south of Bethlehem in the southern West Bank, where they stole carpets and cut electrical wires.

Police said the mosque was abandoned, despite it reportedly still being furnished and hooked up to electricity. No injuries were reported in the break-in.

Officers from the Etzion police station, as well as Border Police forces, were searching for suspects in the incident.

Violence in the West Bank has soared since the Hamas attack on Israel triggered the Gaza war in October 2023.

More than 1,000 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank by Israeli forces or settlers since the war started, according to the PA health ministry. The IDF says the vast majority of them were gunmen killed in exchanges of fire, rioters who clashed with troops or terrorists carrying out attacks.

During the same period, 65 civilians and Israeli security personnel have been killed in terror attacks in Israel and the West Bank. Another eight members of the security forces were killed in clashes during raids in Palestinian cities in the West Bank.
