Ashton Kutcher to join the tribe?
A-list star has been dating Mila Kunis, and rumors are flying that he might convert to Judaism for her
He’s been an model, a comedian, a producer and a television and movie star. And if reports are to be believed, Ashton Kutcher is about to add one more label to his name — Member of the Tribe.
Kutcher, who’s been dating Jewish actress Mila Kunis since last September, is now studying Judaism and Ukranian (Kunis’s native tongue) in order to impress her parents, according to the gossip website Celebrity Dirty Laundry.
On the one hand, it may well be that Kutcher, whose first name is Christopher, has fallen so in love with his former costar (and onscreen girlfriend) from “That 70s Show” that he is willing to abandon his Roman-Catholic roots in order to cement his commitment to her.
On the other hand, this is not Kutcher’s first foray in this direction: Like many celebrities, he spent several years studying Kabbalah, a popularized version Jewish mysticism, and he and his first wife, actress Demi Moore, were married in 2005 by a rabbi at the Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles.
Not long after he and Kunis started dating, he brought her to a Kabbalah service in New York City, but she then made it clear that she had no intention of of joining the movement.
Kunis, 29, moved to America with her family from the Ukraine at the age of 7. Seven years later, she landed the role of Jackie Burkhardt in “That 70s Show,” with Kutcher, five years her senior, alongside her in the cast.
If Kutcher does indeed convert to Judaism, one wonders what will become of that first name; Christopher is not hugely “Jewish” sounding.
