Biden calls PM Lapid's son to congratulate him on recent wedding

US president phones Yoav Lapid to convey well wishes during honeymoon with new bride in Hawaii, invites couple to White House

US President Joe Biden called the eldest son of Israeli Prime Minister Yair Lapid this past week to congratulate him on his wedding late last month, according to reports in the Hebrew-language media Saturday.

The call came while Yoav Lapid and his new bride, Shay Alalo, were on their honeymoon in Hawaii, Channel 12 reported.

Yoav Lapid, 35, is the premier’s son from his first marriage. Lapid has two additional children, a son and a daughter, with his current wife of many years, Lihi Lapid.

The call between Biden and Yoav Lapid lasted about 10 minutes, during which the US president also spoke briefly to Alalo, wished them both a happy life together and invited them on a tour of the White House, according to the report.

Lapid had to cut short a trip to New York last month for the United Nations General Assembly and forgo a meeting with Biden to rush back to Israel for his son’s wedding, which took place on a kibbutz in central Israel on September 23. According to the report, Biden had congratulated Lapid and promised to call his son to convey his well wishes.

In a phone call between Biden and Lapid this week, following a US-brokered maritime deal between Israel and Lebanon to settle a decades-long dispute, the US president told the prime minister that he hadn’t forgotten his promise to congratulate his son.

The call from Biden to Lapid’s son came on Wednesday.

Yoav Lapid and Alalo married in a small, private ceremony just over three weeks ago during which the prime minister got on stage following the wedding ceremony to sing a song alongside renowned Israeli singer and songwriter Rami Kleinstein.
