Israel is taking advantage of fighting between Sunnis and Shiites in order to attack both Muslim denominations, at least according to a cartoon published Sunday on a website belonging to the Palestinian Fatah party.

The cartoon, which appears on Fatah’s Information and Culture Commission website, shows a long-nosed Jew dressed in the ultra-Orthodox style, with an Israeli flag on his arm, lighting a bomb. Within the bomb, a Sunni and a Shi’ite Muslim are also lighting bombs to blow each other up

The cartoon was published with the heading “no comment.”

The long- and hook-nosed image of a Jew and the idea that Jews control global events are both classic anti-Semitic tropes.

While Fatah officials, including the head of the party, Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas, have denounced anti-Semitism, anti-Jewish imagery appears often in the party’s official media.

A cartoon recently aired on a Fatah-owned Palestinian TV station showed Jews siding with the devil to fight Muslims and the Muslim prophet Muhammad.

A senior official in Fatah was also criticized last month for telling Palestinian news site Donia al-Watan, “Wherever you find an Israeli, slit his throat.”
