A worker in his 60s was killed Friday in an accident at a factory in the coastal city of Rishon Lezion.

Reports initially said the worker died after being hit by an unspecified heavy object. First responders later reported finding the victim underneath large ceramic tiles. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Deadly work accidents, particularly in the construction industry, are a frequent occurrence in Israel, often attributed to poorly enforced safety codes.

In August, a construction worker was killed after being hit by an object that fell from “a great height.” Days earlier, two people were killed and several others were injured in a construction accident in Tirat Carmel in northern Israel. A shipping container that got disconnected from a crane fell to the ground and crushed two workers, killing them instantly.
