A police officer who shot his wife dead and then turned himself in was remanded in custody Monday by the Haifa Magistrate’s Court for six days.

Masresha Wasa, 24, shot and killed his wife Angoach Malkmu Wasa, 36, in their home in the central town of Netanya the night before.

An initial investigation found that their three children, aged 7, 6, and 2 months, were in the apartment at the time.

The two older children, from a previous marriage of the deceased Wasa, were taken in by their father after the shooting, while the baby was given to members of her family, Channel 10 news reported.

A gag order on details of the case, including the identity of those involved, was partially lifted Monday.

After shooting his wife, Masresha Wasa phoned police to say “I murdered my wife,” the force said on Sunday.

Police said there had been no previous reports of domestic violence or problems in the family and it was not clear why he had done so.
