Police on Friday arrested a driver involved in a head-on collision on Independence Day that killed a baby and left several others injured.

According to police, a blood sample taken from the driver after Wednesday’s crash at the Negev Junction of Route 40 found she had three times the permitted level of alcohol in her system. Traces of marijuana were also detected.

The woman, a 25-year-old from the central city of Rishon Lezion, is suspected of involuntary manslaughter and driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

She is due to appear in court for a remand hearing on Saturday.

Police suspect that the woman collided head-on with the other car after veering from her lane.

Hebrew media reports said another driver called police shortly before the crash to report she was endangering others on the road. The collision reportedly occurred as he was on the phone, leading him to tell the dispatcher to send an ambulance.

The victim, 8-month-old Maayan Domanovich, was buried earlier Friday. His parents, who were both injured in the crash, were unable to attend as they remain hospitalized.
