Thanks to his musical talent and some smooth moves he learned from his grandfather, 17-year-old Harrison Cohen passed his January 14 American Idol audition in Philadelphia where he earned the golden ticket that will take him to the next stage of the Fox show in Los Angeles.

The New York teenager impressed the show’s judges with his original composition, “No Time,” which he said was inspired by “some experiences I’ve had with the ladies.”

The judging panel — country star Keith Urban, J. Lo (also known as Jennifer Lopez), and crooner Harry Connick, Jr. — were surprised by how romantically experienced Cohen claimed to be, and also how well he sung about it.

“I really liked it. I liked the sound of your voice. The song was really… I felt like I could hear it on the radio. It’s like a good little pop tune, the chorus there,” Lopez said.

Connick said he was impressed by Cohen’s talent, but warned that with this being the farewell season of the reality program, there was a lot of pressure to end “American Idol” with a winner who could potentially become as a successful as the first season’s winner, Kelly Clarkson.

“Are you the powerhouse we’re looking for?” Connick challenged the teenager before voting “yes” on moving him to the next round.

As well as Cohen’s audition went, it was his grandfather Alvin Rosenfeld who stole the show. He’s seen sitting with Cohen before the audition checking out the young ladies in attendance. Apparently, it is Grandpa Al to whom the teenager turns to for dating tips, which include more than a few corny pickup lines.

When Cohen mentions how excited he is to meet the beautiful J. Lo, his grandfather jokes that maybe the world famous singer and actress would go for him instead of a younger man like his grandson.

“She’s an incredibly talented person, and I hear she’s unattached right now. And she likes young guys, right? You know, so I’m ready!” he quips.

After the audition, Cohen introduced his “awesome, foxy” grandpa to the judges. Urban asked him about the best dating advice he’s given his grandson so far.

‘Pick out the worst feature in a young lady and build that up’

“Pick out the worst feature in a young lady and build that up,” he answered.

The men on the panel had no idea what Rosenfeld meant. Lopez, on the other hand knew exactly what the romantic senior citizen was getting at.

“Whatever she’s insecure about, you make her feel good about. Which is actually really smart,” she said.
