The IDF opened an investigation on Saturday into an incident in which civilians allegedly gave cookies made with hashish to soldiers on a base in southern Israel.
According to the Ynet news site, citizens came to the base over the weekend and brought cookies for soldiers.
Three soldiers who ate the cookies began to feel ill and went to be examined at the base’s medical clinic. Their condition reportedly improved and they did not require hospital treatment.
Initially it was suspected the cookies were spoiled, Ynet said. It was then suspected that the cookies contained drugs.
An IDF spokesperson said, “A number of reservists felt ill after receiving food donations from civilians. Following the incident, an investigation by the military police was opened.” The statement added that moving forward, the procedure for food donations for soldiers will change.
